Biography
José Antonio Bautista (born October 19, 1980) is a professional baseball outfielder with the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB). Though now primarily a right fielder, having been a utility player in the past, he has major league experience at six different positions. He is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Bautista attended Chipola College and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 20th round of the 2000 amateur draft. After spending three seasons in minor league baseball, Bautista spent the 2004 season with five different MLB organizations. Returning to the Pirates, he struggled to perform at a high level, and found himself traded to the Blue Jays in 2008. By 2010, Bautista began to emerge as one of the best hitters in baseball. In the 2010 season, Bautista became the 26th member of the 50 home run club. He led the major leagues in home runs in 2010 and 2011. He has won two Hank Aaron Awards and Silver Slugger Awards, and has appeared in three MLB All-Star Games.
